How many times have we been told ‘You only get one chance to make a first impression.’ I’ve always maintained that the motto is not helpful advice because it just makes you that much more nervous when you’re meeting a potential boss or the mother of your girlfriend for the first time.

The Oxford English Dictionary is at it again, welcoming a fresh batch of words into its hallowed halls. In all, 700 words and meanings (senses) got added to the OED in June. Here are some of the highlights. Amirite: a colloquial interjection that is a variant of “am I right?

Plastic royalty

So just so my readers know, I’m royalty now. It’s true that my crown is a little girly and plastic, but I have it on good authority (a gaggle of giggling girls between the ages of 4 and 10) that I am a “pretty princess.
