Dear Editor:

Of all the things God gave us, the land and our loved ones are the most precious.

There are two things that made me feel good yesterday, one was the babbling waters of the Bosque River. So tranquil, when you haven’t heard that sound for a while, you forget how beautiful it is. The river is located directly below the property slated for this solar farm here in Erath County. Maybe the owner needs to take a walk on the wild side and remember what the land is about, there is more to life than money.

The second thing was an article by David Wojick, Ph.D., a civil engineer, given to me by a stranger I met while hitting the streets with our message about the solar farm. It was call “Laughing at Climate Hysteria.” Yes, I needed a good laugh, and this was it, very tongue cheek he is my kinda guy! He said and I quote “If you think about it the right way, these green fantasies are hilarious. I read the green news for laughs and they never disappoint.”

“Moreover, fixating on the fantasies distracts us from the real issues. These are the dangerous small steps that the fantasies justify. Pushing electric vehicles, for example. Or subsidizing the building of more tax-sheltering wind farms and acre-eating solar slabs. Combining the two is a super fantasy. In the case of wind and solar the battle has to be fought at the project level but making fun of the fantasy can be very useful.” So, I had to unwind and have a belly laugh as life was just getting too intense.

This reminds me of why I am fighting this so hard, because I’ve lost sight of that recently in all the research, facts and figures and brewing animosities. I am here fighting for the community I live in who would give you the shirt off their back, who love their piece of land and their way of life. They don’t know how to fight and somehow don’t have the will, many because they are getting older, or don’t want to upset someone. Many don’t see what I see in the destruction of the land, and how it will affect them directly, after all they see it as down the road apiece. Then there is the tax hungry corporation who wants even more tax breaks, that’s a very hot button issue for me and I always loved the David and Goliath story!!

So, I urge you to come to the meeting, you don’t have to fight or speak, I, along with others, will do that for you, even though I don’t like to, but a warm body behind our backs will go a long way to help oust the solar project and their future tax raiding. You don’t have live in the Stephenville ISD, but if you live in Erath County this affects you too.

Mark the date, September 20, 5:30 at the Stephenville ISD, Bond Auditorium on Overhill Drive, we look forward to seeing and meeting all our neighbors there.

Joanna Friebele,

Land Owner
