Dublin Lions fans hit the Neff gym a little earlier for an afternoon matchup between the Lions and the Peaster Greyhounds Friday, Dec. 19. Peaster claimed the win 89-67 but the home team gave them a fight.

The Lions came onto the court strong and edged out Peaster in the first half shoot out 45-43. Head Dublin basketball coach Wes Grisham called the first half “everything you hoped for in a battle between the top two teams in district.”

“However, in the 4th quarter we hit a slump on offense and Peaster found ways to hit baskets they needed,” added Grisham, who said he was grateful to the fans for coming out to support the teams. He hopes they can continue to come a fill the stands.

“Our basketball team would definitely put on a show for them,” he said.

Hunter Jones led Lions scoring with 25 pts, 12 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal.

Alex Teten racked up 20 pts, 2 reb, 6 assists and 3 steals.

Joe Salinas had 9 pts, 4 reb and a charge.

Kyson Gilman snagged 6 pts, 2 reb, 1 assist and a steal.

Jayden DeLeon scored 4 pts, 6 reb, 3 assist, 1 steal and 2 charges.

Hayden Milburn put up 2 pts while Ivan Phelps had a point and a rebound and Aiden Jeffery had a rebound and 2 assists.

Dublin plays Wellington in the Brownwood Holiday Classic tournament and other games TBD Dec 29-31.

Dublin’s basketball district games continue Jan. 6 at Comanche and Jan. 9 at home vs Breckenridge with varsity girls at 6:15 p.m. and boys at 7:30 p.m.

The JV Lions were tournament champions in the Dec. 20 Hico tournament with these wins: 48-38 over Valley Mills, 54-23 over Hico and 50-25 over Santo.
