The Dublin Lions were consistent in back-to-back wins over Early last week, claiming 5-2 victories on Tuesday, April 7 and Friday, April 10.
In the home battle April 7 Dublin pitcher struck out 11 batters across 6.3 innings. Phelps and Jaiden Gauna each collected 2 hits while Kyler Gaitan led the team with three runs batted in.
The Lions then traveled to Early for a “really good defensive game,” according to head Dublin baseball coach Andrew Norwood.
“I’m super proud of them and the work they have done thus far,” he added of the team which has moved their district record to 6-4.
Norwood said Joe Salinas was a key factor in the Lion win as the pitcher was almost a no-hitter until the sixth inning. Aaron Rodriguez came in to finish up.
Lions came out to a quick lead with four runs in the first inning and the final scored in the 5th.
