The Dublin Lions returned to the court Monday, June 2 to kick off summer league basketball play with two victories against district opponents.

Dublin defeated Early 48-47 and Comanche 48-29.

“I’m really proud of our guys for jumping out front on these important games,” said head DHS boys basketball coach Wes Grisham. “Even though it’s summer league, we always want to set the tone for this upcoming year. Some have been working on their skills and others were knocking off cobwebs, but that’s what it’s about.”

The Lady Lions also clocked wins against Priddy and Zephyr Monday “Both were close games but we kept our composure and got it done,” said head DHS girls basketball coach Kim Perez. “I’m glad we have this opportunity.”

Grisham also praised the Dublin JV boys which narrowly lost to Brownwood JV, 40-42 in the last seconds of the game.

“They really competed well and this group has some chemistry,” he said. “Their teamwork is tremendous and special. They did lose a close one to Huckabay JV, after playing back to back games. I’m sure fatigue had some [role in the loss]. I can’t wait to see what next week brings.”

The Lions basketball boys play at home Monday evenings through June while the girls play in Gorman.
