The Dublin Lions 7-on-7 team had a successful run in the state tournament Thursday and Friday st College Station, placing 8th out of the 32 teams in their division.
The Dublin boys started 2-0 in pool play by beating Collinsville 20-13 and Wink 49-41. They ended Thursday with a 14-7 loss to Franklin to finish second in pool.
The Lions started bracket play on Friday with a 49-18 win over Tolar, followed by a 28-15 victory over Rogers.
They ended their state run with a 35-21 loss to East Bernard, who jumped ahead 14-0 early in the game. The Lions fought back and tied it up 21-21 in the second half, before East Bernard scored another TD and got the finals points 30 seconds before the buzzer.
“[I’m] proud of their effort,” said Coach and Athletic Director Greg Hardcastle of his players. “[They] did many good things and learned a lot.”
