The 7th grade Lions picked up their 2nd victory of the season with a decisive 38-0 win on Cervetto Field over the Brady Bulldogs.
The win was the result of four strong quarters in which the Lions dominated the line of scrimmage and let runners and quarterback run free, according to Jr. High Coach Shawn Bradford. Defensively, the home team locked in the Bulldogs and refused many first downs.
“This was a great team effort by our Lions,” said coach Tyler Sattler. “We are very proud of the way that all of our players performed and look forward to even more growth as the season progresses.”
Jacob Marret scored in the first quarter. Joe Salinas had 3 rushing touchdowns on the night and one passing touchdown, and Kyler Gaitan had a rushing touchdown as well. Malaki Thompson had a 2 point conversion, and Joe Salinas had 3 two point conversions on the night. Offensive standouts include Joe Salinas, Jacob Marret, Jayden Balventine, and Westin Rollins.
The 8th grade Lions picked up their first win of the season defeating the Brady Bulldogs 50- 20.
“This was a great win for our Lions,” said Sattler. “They have been working really hard and it showed.”
“The lions played with lots of heart tonight,” added Bradford. “We are very proud of the way our athletes performed tonight. They worked hard all week and the reward was a big win.”
The Lions came out ready to play and were only behind after the first Brady drive. The bulldogs drove down the field and scored first. The lions got the ball and immediately answered the call. The lions then played some hard-nosed defense and going into half time the lions were ahead 42-14.
The Lions continued to play lights out football for the second half.
Ruben Bustillos had 4 rushing touchdowns and 3 passing touchdowns. Jaden Deleon was on the receiving end of all the passes and hauled in 3 touchdowns. Ryder McClean had a two point conversion and Ruben called his own number for three on the night.
Defensive standouts are Riley Kemp, Ruben Bustillos, and Juan Alvarez.
The Lions will play Florence at home on Thursday (today) with games starting at 5 p.m.
