Several Dublin FFA received medals as they participated in the Agriscience Fair for the first time at the Texas State FFA Convention held in Houston July 8-12.
Earning gold for Dublin were: Nicole Foster in Plant Systems Division 5 (the largest division of the entire contest) and Caden Vanbebber in Environmental and Natural Resources Division 3.
Silver medals were presented to: Jena Sorrells (Food Processing Division 3), NavaLee White (Social Systems Division 5) and Hayden Milburn (Plant Systems Division 3).
Students were judged for their work as they spent time through the school year and summer collaborating with industry professionals, learning their speech, and writing a lengthy research paper. Complications from Hurricane Beryl caused the interview portion to be canceled.
The Dublin FFA facebook page announced its congratulations for the students and said students enrolled in the new Scientific Research class for the 202425 school year will get the opportunity to work on their projects and conduct additional research to support this new and developing area. In this designated ag class students will increase their scientific knowledge and practice in the new greenhouse and beyond.
Other distinctions received by Dublin students during the convention included formal presentations of previously announced awards: Bailey Watson receiving her Lone Star Degree.
Mariana Ortiz receiving a $20,000 Houston Livestock Show Scholarship.
Vanessa Pantoja receiving a $250 scholarship and recognition of placing first (out of 440 entries) at the state level for Spanish Creed Speaking.
