Michael Glen Weems passed peacefully from this world on September 14, 2021, he was 72 years old. Born in Dublin, TX, to Sherman Ralph and Wanda Nell (Falkner) Weems, Mike, as he liked to be called, lived all over Texas, as did many Phillips Oilfield families, until settling in Lovington, NM where he graduated from Lovington High School in 1966. He attended New Mexico Junior College in its first year of existence, and graduated with an Associates Degree from San Diego Mesa College.

He was proud to have worn 3 military uniforms: starting with the National Guard, then as a Navy Corpsman, and ultimately as a hospital corpsman attached to Echo 2/5 Marines and deployed in Vietnam. It was during this time he became known to his battalion brothers as “Doc Weems.”

After miraculously surviving Vietnam, he returned to San Diego and enjoyed his time as a SERE Instructor at Warner Springs, where he provided survival training for military service members who were facing deployment in hostile situations. He subsequently worked at the Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego. He transitioned into the landscape maintenance industry per the advice of his good friend, Michael Theilacker, through whom he met his wife, Denise. Then in 2000, after attending night school at the University of Phoenix, he earned his Bachelors’ Degree.

After moving back to Dublin in 2004, he finished his work career as a Certified EMT and finally as a Code Enforcement Officer. He stayed occupied even beyond retirement, serving on the Dublin Volunteer Fire Department, acting as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for children, as a volunteer for Disabled American Veterans (DAV), and as a member of the Lion’s Club.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Wanda Weems. He is survived by his wife of almost 34 years, Denise Weems and their daughter Whitney Weems of Dublin, TX; daughters Kristen Perez of Houston, TX, and Cindy Weems of San Diego, CA; grandchildren Heather Alexander, Cali Perez, and Ace Perez; great-grandchildren Sophia and Lily Alexander, all of Houston, TX; sister, Brenda Westbrook, her husband Lynn Westbrook and nephew Corey Westbrook and grandnephews Bradyn Westbrook and Dawson Westbrook all of Odessa, TX; sister Becky Roberts and niece Jennifer Roberts of Odessa, TX; brother Terry Weems and his wife Debbie Weems, and nephew Terry Weems Jr. of Lovington, NM.

If you knew Mike, you’d know what a big personality he had. Kind and caring, he liked to tell jokes and come up with clever quips. He enjoyed cooking, riding his motorcycle, and connecting with family members and friends from his past. He was greatly loved and will be terribly missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, September 25, at the Patrick Street Church of Christ in Dublin, TX. An additional Celebration of Life will be held in San Diego, CA, Saturday, November 27, time and location yet to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans Charity (DAV) or to the National CASA/GAL Association for Children; also accepting “koden” a Japanese custom practiced by Mike’s wife and her family.
