Wrecks plagued the Dublin area over the holiday weekend including a fatality accident that claimed one life.
On Wednesday, Dec. 20, all hands were on deck for an accident on the Dublin Loop and CR 351. The serious wreck impeded traffic for about an hour and one person was flown by Air Evac to a trauma hospital in Fort Worth.
According to information released by DPS, the investigation into the wreck is still ongoing but one of the vehicles failed to yield the right-of-way.
Wet roadways are believed to be a factor in this crash, DPS said.
The fatality wreck occurred around 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 23 on the Dublin Loop and Farm-to-Market 219.
According to DPS, Michael Fairchild, 72, of Arlington was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Colorado and had passengers Nathan Fairchild, 41, and Cameron Fairchild, 15, also of Arlington with him.
The preliminary investigation indicated that Fairchild’s truck was in the center median crossover attempting to turn onto eastbound U.S. 67.
A 2011 Chevrolet C1500 driven by Patrick Russell, 26, of Gustine and a 1-year-old female were traveling eastbound on U.S. 67 as was a 2014 GMC 1500 driven by Zavala Humero, 62, of Comanche. Both vehicles were in the left lane.
According to DPS, Fairchild failed to yield right-of-way and turned in front of the other two vehicles.
Michael Fairchild was pronounced dead on scene by Justice of the Peace David Martin.
The impact caused Russell’s vehicle to catch on fire and both Russell and the baby were transported to Texas Health Harris-Stephenville. Both were properly secured.
Humero was also transported as a result of the crash to Texas Health Harris-Stephenville.
Another accident occurred in the county on Farm-to-Market 219 on Christmas Eve night between a truck and a tractor, however, more information was not available about this wreck at press time.
