The Dublin Masonic Lodge No. 504 recently presented its Community Builder award to a worthy recipient that often hides behind pages of words.
Paul Gaudette, Managing Editor of The Dublin Citizen was presented the award at a special presentation by the Masons Tuesday, Jan. 17.
“Although you have never been initiated into masonry, you have followed the same precepts, ideals and standards that have been established for Masonic behavior,” Masons read during the presentation. “Your selection reflects on your actions, year in and year out, quietly without fanfare. These actions demonstrate your devotion to our community without the expectation of awards or honors. Congratulations and it is a pleasure to present you this Community Builder Award.”
Gaudette has been a long-time Dublin resident moving to the community from San Marcos in 1995. As a seventh-generation Texan, he graduated from Dublin High School in 2002. His education continued at Tarleton State University when he graduated in 2007 with a bachelor’s of arts as an English major, minoring in communications.
He began working at the Dublin Citizen in April 2008, working as a staff writer under former publishers Mac McKinnon and Scott Dykowski and current publisher Brett Wesner.
He became managing editor in 2019, and is the winner of multiple awards in several categories under the Texas Press Association, North and East Texas Press Association and West Texas Press Association.
Gaudette is a multiple Journalist of the Year recipient for North and East Texas Press and West Texas Press.
As managing editor for the newspaper, he manages advertising, sports, layout and content (alongside content editor Wyndi Veigel) and day-today managerial duties.
He strives to keep the paper focused on the community, putting a spotlight on acts that deserve recognition and concerns that warrant attention.
As editor, his favorite part of the job is getting to share major accomplishments of kids and adults in Dublin and surrounding communities.
Community service is a priority to Gaudette and he has previously served for four years on Dublin Chamber of Commerce as secretary, president and vice president; is current president of the Dublin Public Library board and a current board member of the North and East Texas Press Association.
He was accompanied to the presentation by his parents, Norm and Sandy Gaudette, as well as his fiancé, Wyndi.
He and Wyndi are engaged with plans to marry in October and they are proud owners of a neurotic Siberian Husky/ German Shepherd mix named Cooper, adopted from the Dublin kennel.
