The Dublin Lions brought the fight in away games last week, narrowly missing W’s against Brownwood and Coleman.
The Tuesday, Nov. 18 match of lions against Lions ended with Brownwood winning by 5 points (62-57).
“I thought this was a solid game despite [us] missing a lot of shots under the basket and freethrows,” said head boys basketball coach Wes Grisham. “Our guys never put their head down even when the score went lopsided by 15 points. We turned it around and chipped away taking the lead by 4 points in the 4th quarter.”
That lead was short-lived after the home team made some big shots and Dublin missed some free throw opportunities.
Hunter Jones led Lion scoring with 19 points followed by Jayden Deleon with 13, Aiden Jeffery with 10, Ivan Phelps with 6, Kyler Gaitan with 4, Jorge Solis and Joe Salinas with 2 each and Kyson Gilman with 1.
The Lions followed this with a close 59-55 loss to Coleman.
“We were ahead the entire game but couldn’t pull away due to missed shots under the basket and turning the ball over after creating a turnover on defense,” said Grisham. “We just never had a good rhythm throughout the entire game. Good news is we got to use some situational game plans this early in the season and it looked good.”
Jones and Salinas led scoring with 15 and 10 points respectively. Deleon scored 9, Phelps added 7, Julian Caldera and Solis each put in 4, Hayden Milburn had 3, Gilman put in 2 and Omar Vasquez scored 1.
