The Dublin summer basketball teams had a busy week of close battles as the varsity boys split wins and the JV went 3 for 3.
The Dublin JV bested Comanche 51-23, Early 51-36 and Huckabay 61- 44.
The varsity started the Huckabay league play by battling to a 55-50 loss against the host team. “We didn’t have all our varsity guys but we competed well,” said head DHS basketball coach Wes Grisham. “Huckabay shot the ball from the perimeter well and was ahead most of the game. We had a surge and came back but just a little too late. I’m proud of these guys and had some step up in big ways.”
Dublin followed this with a 45-31 win over Bluff Dale. “We didn’t make all of our shots but we hustled and worked together,” said Grisham.
The varsity returned to the Neff gym Monday, June 16 as they fell 41-48 to Early and 45-49 to Huckabay. Dublin was keeping in step and leading in both games until the very end when the opponents secured the win.
“Our guys stepped up when needed and I’m really proud of their effort,” said Grisham of the last game. “The offense was working. The defense had pressure and caused turnovers or grabbed defensive rebounds. We just ran out of gas and Huckabay made some big plays in critical moments.”
