NELSON
Martha Sue Wiggins Nelson was born in Comanche County, Texas on October 16, 1934. She peacefully departed this Earth on September 16, 2024, surrounded by loved ones at home.
Martha was born to Liston and Irene (Looney) Wiggins. She was the youngest of three children. The family moved around during her young years as Liston traveled with his job as a welder. When Don Paul, Patsy, and Martha reached school age, they returned home to Dublin. Martha was active in school activities and graduated from Dublin High School in 1952. After graduating she worked at Southwestern Bell. While working at the phone company, she went to look up some information a lineman needed but became distracted and went to lunch. That lineman, Texas Nelson, came to look up the girl who had left him waiting on the telephone pole. That conversation sparked a romance that ended in marriage. They married on December 18, 1954, and moved into their newly built home in Lancaster where they lived the remainder of their lives.
Martha and Texas had three children, Becky, Robin, and Benny. In addition to raising her family, Martha regularly enjoyed playing bridge with what became lifelong friends as they raised their families together. She and Texas loved traveling, both with the kids and later when Texas retired. They camped with friends and family all over the United States and Canada.
Martha was very proud of her grandchildren, Kim, Sarah, and Jake. She attended lots of their activities when they were young and stayed involved with their lives as they grew older and started their own families.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Texas Bennett Nelson and son, Texas “Benny” Nelson, Jr.
She is survived by daughters Rebecca Kent & husband Bill Kent and Robin Caplinger & husband Carl Pavelka. She had a very large extended family. Grandchildren Kim & Jordan Jackson and son Eli; Sarah & Kyle Johnson and son Logan; Jake & Stephanie Caplinger and children, Jacob, Annie, and Daniel; Sara & Tristan Mendez and daughter Jasmine; Emily & Trinity Rodriguez; Gayle & Chris Guerrero and children Krystian, Clark, and Penelope; Heather & Paul Leer and son Cameron Green; Joseph & Daniella Pavelka and children Eli and Esmeralda; Amber & Kyle Welch and children David, Addie, and Emmie.
