The Dublin Economic Development Corporation is on the search for a new executive director after Amy Wright recently resigned.

Wright (no relation to former EDC Director Karen Wright) sent in an email resignation Nov. 4. She had started in the position in June 2022.

In her resignation letter, Wright stated she had taken another position with the Texas Animal Health Commission in Stephenville and would be starting in her new position Nov. 16.

“I plan on coming to the EDC office every day on my way home to check emails, voicemails and pay bills if this is something you would like for me to do until someone else is hired. I want to make sure everything is in order for the November meeting too. Please let me know if this works for you, I would like to make sure this is an easy transition for everyone,” she wrote in the letter. “I appreciate everything that I have learned here in a short time and all of the patience you showed me while I navigated through this job.”

The Dublin EDC is a 4B nonprofit group which operates under budget and director approval of the Dublin City Council. It is funded with a portion of sales tax dollars.

The EDC makes grants and loans which encourage business facade improvements, beautification and clean up, historic preservation and other projects which benefit the community or help enhance community growth through job creation and retention. It also acts as Dublin’s business recruiting arm.

At their regularly scheduled meeting on Nov. 22, the board discussed several items and briefly touched on the resignation.

“She didn’t even give us 14 days notice,” Board member Lenora Davidson said.

A special called meeting has been scheduled at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1 to discuss the next steps in more detail since it was not a posted action item on the Nov. 22 agenda left by Wright.

On the agenda, the board approved a $3,750 community improvement grant for Thomas Carroll, DDS at 114 N. Grafton for the mural painted on the building.

“It’s a beautiful mural,” EDC Board member Sarah McCann said.

“It’s definitely an enhancement for the city,” Davidson commented.

The board also briefly discussed the bylaws since they had not been updated in many years but ultimately tabled the item until they could sort out a new executive director.
