Sheila Thomas has had many jobs that historically have been done mostly by men; construction, concrete work, building pipelines, and more. Along the way, she has worked hard to empower the women and girls in her life to feel safe, strong, and capable of anything.

Rodeo Museum to unleash ‘Secrets’

From 1937 to 1959, Dublin hosted one of the largest, most famous rodeos of the time. But then it all but disappeared. What happened? Come discover the “Secrets of the Dublin Rodeo Heritage” on August 14 from 1-5 p.m, hosted by the Dublin Rodeo Heritage Museum.

Spelling and expelling demonyms

Beelzebub. Mammon. Legion. These are demon names. Today we’re talking about demonyms, which are different from demon names. The devil is in the details, I suppose. Demonyms are the words we use for groups of people from different places.

Going home again

“You can never go home again.” I sort of felt like there might be some truth to the old saying last month as two trips and a housesitting gig kept me from staying at my house for about 20 days. My home is small but it’s nice to have a space set up especially for me and my dog, Cooper.

Too clever by half

Kids love to tell you precisely how old they are. Adults, on the other hand, treat age like a tightly guarded state secret. With kids, the “half” in their age makes all the difference. My son isn’t merely “seven”; he’s “seven-and-a-half.

Letter to the editor

Dear Editor: I drive by the old Dublin Railroad depot and always think what a neat old building. And then I think why is it just sitting there? I thought some work was being done on it a few years ago, but then it seemed to stop. Why?

How many times have we been told ‘You only get one chance to make a first impression.’ I’ve always maintained that the motto is not helpful advice because it just makes you that much more nervous when you’re meeting a potential boss or the mother of your girlfriend for the first time.
