It’s not as bad as it sounds

I’ve been accused of acting my shoe size more times than I can count. I’m OK with that. Why is that, you ask? Kids have way more fun. If we take ourselves too seriously, we’ll turn into gargoyles — stiffly observing the world around us from our lofty perches. No thanks.

What’s your word for 2023? Don’t go with one of these

Many people focus on one word to guide them through the next year. Is this something you do? If so, you might want to make sure it’s the correct word. While I don’t recommend choosing any of the following words to usher you through 2023, you certainly don’t want to get these confused!

TAD’s giving season is year round

The end of the year is a time to celebrate all that has been accomplished over the past months. It’s also the opportunity to reflect and plan for the upcoming year – how can we build and improve on those accomplishments?

Spending time

‘Let’s not exchange gifts this year. We’ll only do one or two gifts this year. We’ll just fill stockings this year.’ Following Christmas exchanges with my parents and Wyndi’s mom and grandma, I’d like to advise everyone that phrases like these are not to be believed.

Missing Santa

I was in my late 20’s before I ever took a photo with Santa. Growing up, I just disliked Santas. I don’t know what specifically intimidated me, but I didn’t care for the jolly old guy in a red suit. This changed when I moved to Farmersville in 2007 and started working for the newspaper there.

Museum Matters

The year 1914 marked the beginning of World War I, and it’s destruction that covered Europe. Those who witnessed the devastation thought it would be the war to end all wars. Soldiers who thought that they would be serving a short time, ended up staying in the cold damp trenches for months.

Merry Melodies

As Wyndi was preparing Christmas letters this year, she had us both make a list of the top 10 experiences we had this year. Of course, her saying yes to my wedding proposal topped the list. Many of the other items related to covering big events and spending time with family and friends.
