Historic Mason courthouse destroyed by fire

The historic 111-year-old Mason County courthouse in Mason, Texas was destroyed by an overnight fire between Feb. 4 and Feb. 5. Mason County Judge Jerry Bearden reported that the courthouse, which was set to begin renovations in May, caught fire around 10 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4.

Love Run 5K returns Feb. 13

Transformation Pathway, Dublin’s Christian Women/Men Job Corps ministry, is inviting the community to join in the third annual Love Run 5K and Fun Run on Saturday, Feb. 13. Organizers encourage everyone to bring the whole family, promising a fun event for all ages and fitness levels.

Erath County officials reported seven new cases of COVID-19 in the report from Thursday night (Feb. 4). All seven of these new positive cases were from within the city limits of Stephenville. Total deaths since March were reported at 56 by the Department of State Health Services.

Central district: Light, showery conditions throughout the week maintained good topsoil moisture. Wet, cold conditions increased feeding requirements for beef herds. Some herds were expected to begin calving season soon. Pecan harvest neared completion. Small grains looked very good.

2020 Central Region Pecan Show and Chill Hours The Central Region pecan show for the 2020 crop year was judged on January 13th at the G. Rollie White Visitors Center in College Station, Texas. Numbers were down, but we still had ninety-six samples from ten counties recorded as participants.

Fishing report

BROWNWOOD SLOW. Water clear; 52 degrees; 2.77 low. Largemouth bass are slow with crankbaits, jerk baits, and jigs near brush piles, rocky shorelines, and fallen timber. Crappie are slow on minnows in brush piles and timber edges near a creek channel or drop off.

FCBT elects new officers

The Farm Credit Bank of Texas (FCBT) board of directors recently reelected James F. “Jimmy” Dodson board chair and elected Linda Floerke vice chair of the Austin-based bank. The two Texas agricultural producers were elected to oneyear terms.

Tarleton shatters enrollment record

Tarleton State University has scored all-time-high enrollment for the third consecutive term. While universities nationwide experience sharp declines, Tarleton continues making records on the other end of the scale. Current numbers are up 6.46 percent over spring 2020. Fall enrollment increased 6.
