The Comanche ISD FFA Project Show was held on Dec. 11, 2021 with the following winners: Cody DeAx (grand champion steer), Lacie Day (grand champion lamb), Brody Worrell (grand champion goat and swine), Ava Worrell (reserve champion goat and market swine), Robert Sierra (reserve champion steer) and Hatton Sides (grand champion breeding heifer).

The body of longtime Hamilton veterinarian and supporter Dr. Bill Craig was escorted by horse-drawn carriage to Oakwood Cemetery for a private family service. Craig was lost in a Dec. 29 roping accident on his ranch in Hamilton County. He was a Hamilton native who retired after 36 years of service as a veterinarian.

Hico News-Review

Melinda Bussell of Hico won the 24th Annual Hico News Review College Football Bowl Contest, receiving $700 in merchandise from contest’s business sponsors.

Four DeLeon Bearcats were named to the District 4-AA All-District football team while three received honorable mention nods. Senior Trey Lopez earned first team honors as wide receiver while the following were named to the second team: Kallen McIlvain (linebacker), Ethan Salinas (defensive end) and Tim Winnegart (defensive back). Offensive linemen Joe Leal, Logan Sherrard and Wyatt Rasberry were all named Honorable Mention.

DeLeon City Hall recently got a new awning to replace the previous awning, which was taken down in an accident when a truck tried to pass through the drive-thru and hit the covering.
