First responders in the Dublin area had a busy weekend with both wrecks and fires taking place.
On Sunday, Sept 20, at around noon, a major accident occurred on Hwy. 377 at the Loop when a tire blew on one truck and went through the windshield of another semi-truck.
The driver suffered only minor injuries from the glass breaking.
“It barely missed the driver and could have been much, much worse,” Dublin Fire Chief Paul Warner said.
Another two vehicle accident was reported on FM 291 and Hwy. 377 on Sunday with a vehicle overturned at around 9 p.m. Two individuals were transported with injuries.
Also on Sunday, Dublin VFD along with Harbin, Hico and Erath County responded to a brushfire on CR 264. The fire is suspected to have been started by lightning and ended up being about 22-25 acres. Multiple structures were threatened with the fire but none burned. This fire rekindled on Monday but FDs were able to quickly extinguish the fire.
On Saturday, Dublin also responded to a vehicle vs. fence accident. As the area continues to suffer from drought conditions, a burn ban remains in place for Erath County and the surrounding area. Erath County is currently at a 730 (out of 800) drought score.
Please use caution with every day activities, such as parking on grass or trailer chains, that may spark and start fires. According to information released by Erath County Fire Rescue, they have responded to an average of 2.1 fires per day when including outside mutual aid responses in their run totals. “While fires have made up a large portion of our call volume, over 180 different incidents have found your firemen in the Texas heat over the past three months,” the department stated through social media.
