Stephenville class to allay fears of falling

Older Erath County residents concerned with falling are invited to an eight-week class to help address their fears: A Matter of Balance.

A Matter of Balance is an award-winning program designed to manage falls and increase activity levels.

It is being held Mondays from Jan. 10 to March 14 (no class on Jan. 17 and Feb. 21) at Stephenville Senior Center (164 E. College in Stephenville). Classes are from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The program emphasizes practical strategies and those attending will learn to:

■ view falls as controllable

■ set goals for increasing activity

■ make changes to reduce fall risks at home

■ exercise to increase strength and balance

Who should attend?

■ anyone concerned about falls

■ anyone interested in improving balance, flexibility and strength

■ anyone who has fallen in the past

■ anyone who has restricted activities because of falling concerns

The program is being hosted by the Area Agency on Aging of North Central Texas, Texas Health Resources and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.
