Museum Matters

Body
It was in November 1944, that the Japanese decided that their war against the United States was not going well. Their plan was to create hydrogen balloons from paper and twine that could fly using the easterly upper winds in the atmosphere to take them to the United States.

Where are they now? Megan McIntosh

Body
Dublin graduate Megan McIntosh has based her life and career on helping the people around her. “There’s a quote that I always go by that says, ‘If we’re not helping others make their lives better, then we’re just wasting our time,’” McIntosh said. “We’re put on this earth to make everyone’s life better, and to improve and to grow as a whole.”

The parable of the Sower

Body
The parable of the Sower is found in the Gospels of Mark 4:1-20, Matthew 13:1-23 and Luke 8:4-15. The context is that of a farmer sowing seed and Jesus shared this parable to communicate the different types of people, how they receive the Word of God, the outcome of their reception and why the results are as they are.

A range of options

Body
My great grandparents lived on a homestead. They cooked on a wood stove.

What do you call that bug under the big rock?

Body
I’m going to confess to a murder, acknowledging there probably aren’t any statutes of limitations on this kind of thing. Growing up, my sister and I sprinkled salt on our fair share of slugs. While I’m not proud of my salty slug serial killing spree, exploring under big rocks in the backyard was a great way to learn about the creepy-crawly world around me.

Letter to the Editor

Body
(Editor’s note: the court case cited in this letter relates to an appeals trial in Washington D.C. in 2021. ProPublica reported on this stating: “Responding to a pair of lawsuits filed by the Environmental Health Trust and other activist groups, the court ruled in August 2021 that the FCC had failed to meet “even the low threshold of reasoned analysis” in finding that its limits “adequately protect against the harmful effects of exposure to radiofrequency radiation unrelated to cancer.” (The FCC had responded sufficiently to fears that wireless radiation causes cancer, the judges wrote.)” Our reporting of the City Council meeting can be found on page A1.)

Multi-asking

Sometimes technology breaks down when part of it works too well. The over-performing device in question is a set of wireless earbuds I got a few months ago.
