The Dublin Lions are looking for a win Friday, Sept. 11 as they take on the Keene Chargers in the homecoming matchup starting at 7 p.m. on Cervetto Field.
The game will be preceded by the unveiling of the Homecoming Queen as the candidates and class representatives take the field at 6:20 p.m.
A community pep rally will be held in the stadium at 10:15 a.m. where the Homecoming King will be crowned.
The Lions are returning to the home field again after a rough stumble on the home field Friday, Sept. 4 where the Santo Wildcats overcame the home team 61-0.
The Lions once again showed some bright spots in defense as Jaiden Gauna (who also had 40 yards in receiving) had nine tackles, 5 of them solo. Cayson Loving followed with seven, five solo and Joe Salinas had sick tackles with four of those solo.
Daniel Velazquez stepped in for quarterback Paxton Loper, netting yards of passing in 10 out of 18 attempts. Loper and Salinas both aided the Lions with fumble receptions.
Head football coach/ athletic director Greg Hardcastle said Keene have been running flexbone offense and a four-man front similar to what we saw with Santo, but there are a lot of unknowns as this is the first year for Keene to play UIL football. The team split wins in its first two games, losing 56-6 last week to New Waverly after winning 28-8 over Riesel in Week 1.
The Lions are working on capitalizing in lessons learned from the past two weeks for a strong fight Friday night, which will act as their “last tune-up before the district opener” per Hardcastle.
