Fishing Report

Body

BROWNWOOD

GOOD. Water clear; 84-85 degrees; 1.19 feet below pool. Black bass are good to 5.09 pounds in the grass on topwater frogs and in 8-15 feet of water on shaky heads with green pumpkin F5 worms, dropshots with 6-inch worms in Morning Glory, whopper ploppers and square bill crankbaits. Crappie are fair to 13 inches on minnows and jigs in 10-20 feet on deeper large docks with brush on the main lake and on scattered brush piles. White bass are fair to 1.25 pounds on crappie jigs and minnows out of the lights at night with some schooling action early and late. Catfish are good 3-5 pounds on jug lines with cut shad on the main lake flats and minnows around the docks.

GRANBURY

GOOD. Water temperatures have fallen into the lower 80s and continue to cool some. The heat will likely return as it is early September. Granbury is at full pool and water clarity is normal. The fall feeding frenzy is upon us. Striped bass on the lower ends are fair to good on live shad and topwater action is good when located. White bass are good to excellent midlake on slabs, spinners and trolled Pet Spoons. Sand bass schools are busting the surface chasing bait. Largemouth bass are good to 7 pounds on spinners, crankbaits and soft plastics worked near creek entrances and on humps and ridges midlake. Crappie are excellent on small jigs and small minnows fished from in-town to Ports O‘Call. Catfish action is good on many areas of the lake, with the best reports coming from in-town and upstream to near Hunter Park.

POSSUM KINGDOM FAIR. Water stained; 86-89 degrees; 0.84 feet below pool. Water clarity is 2-8 feet of visibility. Stripers are slow. Live bait is your best bet. Nothing is being caught trolling at the moment. Look for them in 20-40 feet of water. They are moving fast, so you will have to slowly move around and just pick them off one at a time till you find a good school. Then try to stay on top of the school, which can be extremely tough as they are moving fast. Sand bass are fair. Look for them in 10-20 feet of water on main lake points and sand flats. Chrome and white seem to be outproducing all other colors. Catfish are good. Baited holes are your best bet to catch numbers but will not produce big fish. Bait with cattle cubes and wait 2-3 hours before fishing. Use punch bait for best results on baited holes. Report by TJ Ranft, Ranft Guide Service. Bass are slow due to population, but the fishery is recovering.

PROCTOR

FAIR. Water stained; 87 degrees; 1.20 feet below pool. Catfish are good on cut bait and live bait with reports of good catches of channels. Brush piles are holding fish with some good takedowns reported. Striper fishing has been reported by local anglers. Reports of white bass caught trolling in shallow water. Crappie are transitioning to brush piles.
