Wanda Neel Grimes departed this life on January 27, 2024 in College Station, TX at the age of 99 years and 5 months. She was born in Dublin, TX on Aug 23, 1924 to the late Guy Weaver Neel and Mary Louisa Wilhite Neel. Wanda married Barney A Grimes, Jr, an Army Air Corps pilot in 1941. They had a wonderful life in the Air Force, traveling the world and throughout the U.S.A. Upon retirement in 1965, they settled in Tennessee Colony, TX, to a stock farm. They worked side by side establishing their ranch until Barney’s death in 1983. Wanda was a very active Air Force wife, serving many roles in the Air Force Officers; Wives Club where she helped to write a book etiquette. She was an excellent golfer and competed and was runner up in the South Dakota Women’s State Championship. Her other passion was art/ She lovedlearningnewtechniques and her paintings are cherished possessions to her family. Wand a Grimes was predeceased by her husband, Barney A. Grimes, Jr, a daughter, Patricia Hadipour, a granddaughter, Amelia P. Williams, and sisters, Ollidine Kepple and Nelda Neel. She is survived by a daughter, Pamela E. Grimes, of College Station, TX and Barney A. Grimes III (Peggy) of Lynchburg, VA. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Wanda was a child of the Depression, a WWII bride, a constant and patriotic matriarch over the whole of her life and she will be greatly missed., Visitation will be Monday, February 5, 2024 at Bailey-Foster Funeral Home, Palestine TX from 9-10 am. Services will be conducted at St Philip’s Episcopal Church, Palestine, TX at 11 am with Dr. C. L. Kolstad, III officiating.
