He was born in Pleasanton, Texas Feb. 13, 1958, to Frank, Sr., and Dolores Gaitan. The family moved to Dublin in 1966 from Lubbock, Texas. It is here that Frank found a love for baseball, softball, and law enforcement.

He played for the San Antonio Missions, The Wrecking Crew, then the Playboys. In 1996, the Playboys won the Triple Crown World Finals in Steamboat Springs, and went on to win the Crown Jewel in Puerta Vallarta, Mexico. There has never been a game missed in the Gaitan household. There have been countless barbecues, get-togethers, and bull sessions while watching the game on the TV.

Early in his career, Franko worked for Dublin ISD as a teacher’s aide and bus driver, and later as an oilfield worker. In 1981, Franko became the first Hispanic member of the police force in Erath County. He also worked as an EMT in Dublin during this time. In 1986, he graduated from Tarleton State University Police Academy. He then began working for Stephenville Police Department. Franko excelled in his career which spanned 31 years, retiring as lieutenant.

Franko Gaitan was a kind man to many. He never met a stranger and was willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His family will miss him terribly.
