Carol Lynette Loyd Carroll went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 7, 2026, while surrounded by her loving family, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.
Carol was born on September 21, 1948, in Shelbyville, Tennessee, to Georgia Margaret “Polly” (Harris) Loyd Ford and James Loyd. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Kathy Loyd Lake.
Carol grew up in Ft. Worth and graduated as a proud Rebel from Richland High School in 1967. She met her husband, Dr. Thomas Carroll, while working at Cattlemen’s Steakhouse in Dallas. They were married on May 4, 1968, and she moved to Dallas where they raised their family. Carol started taking classes at Eastfield Community College when her children were older. She later took a job in the Anthropology Department at SMU, where she also continued her education until earning her Bachelors of Arts in 1994. She stayed at SMU, later working in the Physics Department until her retirement in 2014. Carol and her husband permanently moved to the cabin they built in Dublin, Texas, in 2021.
Carol had many interests over the years from sewing, crocheting, cooking and baking; to gardening, raising chickens and bowhunting. She got into quilting while a member at Friendship Baptist Church in Mesquite, Texas, and loved the ladies in that group as much, if not more than the quilting itself. Carol was an avid game and card player, and a fantasy football fanatic. She enjoyed many things, but nothing more than her family. Some of her fondest memories were the family vacations they all went on. Carol’s walk with Christ was the most important thing in her life, and her faith led her throughout it, right up to the end. Her greatest legacy is the faith she passed on to her children and grandchildren.
Carol is survived by her husband of 58 years, Dr. Thomas Carroll; daughter, Cindy; sons, Richard, Thomas Jr. & Tammy, Tim & Stephanie, Chuck & Lindsey; grandchildren, Tanner, Faryn, Brittany & Tom; great-grandchildren, Thomas, Clara, Remi; sister, Gail & Dickie; brothers, Wayne, Larry, Eddie & Audrey, Wes, Brian & Cathy, Loran, Dale & Shelley; numerous nieces and nephews; aunts and cousins; and many friends whose lives she touched. She will truly be missed.
Carol’s Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 1 P.M. at the Cowboy Church of Erath County located at 4945 US 67, Stephenville, Texas.
