Summer Reading Club to end July 22

Body

Those participating in the Dublin Public Library’s Summer Reading Club only have a few more weeks to put on their speedy reading hats before reading logs must be turned in.

All reading logs must be turned in by 2 p.m. Saturday, July 22.

The Summer Reading Club is open to kids and adults alike and participants receive one raffle ticket for each chapter book they read or listen to, or one ticket for every 10 picture books that young readers consume.

Tickets are then used in a drawing for: Rangers tickets, a Nintendo Switch, Apple Airpods, a karaoke microphone, a light up frisbee or a content creator package. The drawing will be held at 2:05 p.m. Saturday, July 22.

In addition to the raffle tickets, each reader gets to choose three free books from the library’s “book fair” and three small prizes.

The library has spent time this summer organizing grab-and-go crafts for eager readers and hosting a slew of programs.

“We are so grateful for all the people and organizations that pitch in to make the Summer Reading Program fun for the community. The summer has flown by!” Library Director Adina Dunn said.

Summer Reading Programs throughout the state and nation are organized as a way to combat “summer slide,” a term used to describe learning loss for kids.

Students who read in the summer gain an average of one month of reading proficiency while students who don’t read lose an average of two-three months proficiency, and over time those months add up to years, according to booksourcebanter. com.
