Comanche County Medical Center is capitalizing on a record year by expanding and providing more services in the communities which helped them grow.
“We finished 2022 really strong across the whole system, including Dublin,” said CCMC CEO Dr. Larry Troxell.
How strong? “We had $2.9 million in profit in 2022,” he said. “That’s 48% better than our previous best year, 2019.”
“We will have increases now for the foreseeable future,” Troxell added. “Our profitability will allow us to pay off all long term debt by the end of 2026.That includes the nursing home. Any new construction will come out of operational cash.”
This is not a light statement because Troxell and CCMC have big plans to expand their services and facilities.
In Dublin, Dr. Troxell said that Patrick Street Pharmacy in its small space has grown to the volume it had in its previous location on North Patrick across from Dublin Donuts.
The increased activity has led CCMC to seek a new pharmacy with a drive-thru for more convenience for the community.
CCMC is already in discussions about potential locations with property owners.
This move will also allow them to free up space at the Dublin Family Medicine Clinic.
This space is needed because pediatrician Dr. Helen Ong has joined CCMC and will be working part of the week in Dublin seeing patients.
She will also see patients on the main campus in Comanche County and is expected to see patients in Stephenville as CCMC is in discussions to acquire a clinic and pharmacy there.
On the main campus, CCMC is also constructing a new pharmacy with a drive-thru on the south side with construction expected to start in August.
The nursing home construction on the north side and is expected to finish by the end of this year and open in the first quarter of 2024.
“We’re finishing the foundation now,” he said with the expectation that the foundation would be done in the next few days.
The76-bed facility (with a capacity for 100 residents), overseen by Director of Clinic Operations Nikki Stark, will be fully featured for the benefit of resident and family. They are also developing acres around the facility with walking/jogging paths and picnic areas for outdoor excursions.
Dr. Troxell is deeply appreciative of the support they’ve had in building the facility through donations and a record banquet fundraiser last year.
Even still, they are looking at the cost efficiency of everything as they build.
Dr. Troxell said all this growth can be attributed to the support of the community and the quality work of the CCMC staff. He also expressed pride in work they’ve done showing progress in the treatment of chronic conditions like macular degeneration and multiple sclerosis.
They’re also expanding telehealth operations and working with Texas A&M University to determine mental health needs in our rural area.
“I am so proud of this organization and the Dublin community and the support we’re getting out there,” Troxell said. “We want to do everything we can to improve it out there.”
