The opening of filing for seats on the Dublin City Council created the biggest flurry of activity in recent years. Within the first three days, six candidates had filed.
In several recent city elections, there were few or no filings until several weeks into the application period.
By noon Wednesday, former city councilmen Paul Warner and Jerry Barnes, political newcomers Jeff Weaver and Robert Whiteley Jr., former Dublin police officer C.E. Maline and incumbent James “Red” Seigars had filed for council seats.
Warner has filed for the Ward I seat currently held by Rodney Armstrong. Weaver has filed for the Ward 2 post currently held by Dr. Don Stewart. Barnes and Malone have filed for the remaining one-year unexpired term in Ward 4. That seat previously was held by David Mulloy who resigned on Oct. 13.
Seigars has filed for reelection to the Ward 4 seat he has held since 1992. Whiteley has also filed for the seat.
