With the New Year approaching, many children are enjoying a shiny new toy they received for Christmas, but one little girl from Comanche is hoping for a lifesaving blood stem cell donor this year.
5-year-old Josey Roman is battling an unknown blood disorder that prevents her body from producing and storing blood. Her case is being studied by experts across the U.S., but the one thing that is known is that a blood stem cell transplant would cure her. Josey’s family has teamed up with DKMS, the world’s largest blood stem cell donor center, with the hopes of identifying her lifesaving match. A transplant will provide Josey with a second chance at the life she deserves, doing what she loves most: playing with her brothers, ‘doing’ hair, nails and makeup and growing up to fulfill her dreams of being a scientist, doctor or cosmetologist.
DKMS encourages anyone in good health between ages 18-55 to register via www. dkms. org/ adonorforjosey. A free registration kit will be sent to directly to folks’ homes; individuals can easily perform the cheek swab themselves and mail the kit back to DKMS.
