The Christmas holidays were ushered in with Christmas trees at the various churches, where Santa Claus in full regalia greeted the youngsters making glad the hearts of the tiny folk and renewing the youth of those older.

There was an especially good program at the Baptist church on Christmas night when a pageant representing the birth of the Savior was presented.

There were a number of enjoyable parties for the young folks at home from school. On Christmas night Mrs. Frank Weiser entertained with a dance with her usual graciousness giving an opportunity for a reunion of friends from home and out of town.

On Tuesday evening, Mrs. FF Christie gave a pretty party in honor of Miss Hattie Ruth Christie who is at home from C.I.A. and on Wednesday evening Dr. and Mrs. Sessums welcomed a merry party of young people for their son Valton, who is attending SMU at Dallas.

Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Fisher entertained the same evening a pleasant group to meet Miss Ossee Maedgin of Brownwood who is their guest.

Some of the young people went to Comanche and Stephenville to attend the Christmas dances and several of the boys went hunting.

An H.D. 45 Star rig is being moved on the Greens Creek oil well location this week and will be spudded in as soon as workers can get the details finished. Actual drilling is expected to begin before another week passes.

This well is located on the Lowell Howell tract in the John Carter (Eastern) survey, about ½ mile from the old Kiker gin. It is being drilled by the Forson Oil and Gas Co. Their contract calls for a depth to the Ellenburger lime unless pay dirt is hit sooner.

Interest in this location is growing as it is near another well that was drilled years ago that reportedly has considerable oil showings. The driller and crew have arrived and are now very busy getting the rig in place.

One of the most interesting events to take place in Dublin for a long time was the “Christmas Heritage Homes Tour” sponsored by the Dublin Garden Club.

The homes open were those of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Broughton, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Harris, Dr. and Mrs. W.H. Stephen and Mrs. Darrel E. Allison. Members of the Garden Club served refreshments in the Allison home. Each home was beautifully decorated and displayed the talents of its occupants.

The event was well attended by Dublinites. Also guests from Stephenville, DeLeon, Comanche, Hamilton, Evant, Fort Worth, Odessa, Lake Jackson and other locations, says Mrs. Ted Hallmark, President and Mrs. Sam Wolfe, Chairman.

“It was 37 years, three months and 16 days – but who’s counting,” said Louis “Red” Pendleton about his retirement from Sprint/ United Telephone on Dec. 31.

Pendleton served the Dublin area repairing and installing telephones and endearing himself to the community to the point that many called him “Mr. Telephone.”

Technology has changed tremendously in the last four decades and Pendleton learned each new phase as it came along.

“I didn’t like it. I hate changes, but I stuck with it and now I like it better,” he said.
