Angels still need adoption at CWJC
The community is being asked to be a little bit like Saint Nicholas and help children in need by adopting an angel.
Located at Christian Women’s Job Corps – Transformation Pathway, 40 ‘Angels’ are located inside and need to be adopted with their gifts returned by Dec. 10.
The Angels are children from Dublin ISD and elderly from a local retirement home. The school gives Angel Volunteer Coordinator Valari Conner with CWJC a list of students in need. She then takes the list and assigns numbers to the angels to keep their identity a secret.
Conner admits it’s a lot of work to keep them organized but it’s a job she loves.
“I know there is a big need, especially in this small town. I know the struggle and I’m glad we can help,” she said.
Those wanting to adopt an angel can grab a card at CWJC which lists their gender, their age, needs, likes, shoe size, pant size and shirt size.
Gifts do not have to be wrapped and gift bags are encouraged instead of wrapped presents so additional items can be added to the gifts.
“We often supplement them and each child gets at least two books,” she said.
For those who may want to help but either cannot afford a whole angel, Dollar General has a donation box set up, financial donations can be dropped at CWJC or individual toys can be donated to CWJC.
“They can donate it here and we will make sure it gets a home,” she said.
CWJC also recently held an Angel Tree fundraiser at Five Below, which was a huge success.
“My kids loved greeting people and handing out candy canes with notes,” she said.
