Daughters of the Republic of Texas

Body

The program for the November meeting of the Bosque River Chapter of Daughters of the Republic of Texas was presented by chapter member Sheran Weible of Dublin. She researches clothing from various periods of history and sews many garments herself. Weible wore a dress of the period of the Republic of Texas, early 1840’s, called a wrapper. It was a dress to be worn around the house but could then be dressed up to wear to town or to social events by the addition of petticoats, under sleeves, a collar, gloves and hat.

During the meeting the honor days of November 3, Stephen F. Austin’s birthday, and November 6, DRT Founders’ Day, were acknowledged.

A ceremony was held to induct Alesa Hunt into the organization and chapter.

Hunt’s ancestor was Stephen Halbert. To become a member women must be direct ancestors of a man or woman who honorably served the Republic of Texas prior to February 1846. To learn how you can become a member go to www.drtinfo. org or call chapter registrar Carol Dismukes ( 972-9777727)
