This week marks the return of the Cowboy Capital of the World PRCA Rodeo (Sept. 24-26 at 7 p.m. in the Stephenville Fairgrounds Arena), part of a month of Rodeo Heritage Celebration that took a lot of local leaders and volunteers to make happen.
Among those are Terah Bradberrry and her husband, Paul, who owns Bradberry’s Best. The Dublin mainstay is the sponsor of the Rodeo Heritage Parade set to start at Stephenville City Park Saturday, Sept. 26 at 10 a.m. and move through downtown.
To celebrate their involvement, Bradberry’s Best is hosting a meet and greet Friday, Sept. 25 from 2 p.m.-3 p.m. with visitors able to meet the iconic Big V Feeds Clydesdales and Paige and Ty Murray. The Murrays are parade grand marshals this year and Paige will be signing copies of her children’s books featuring Rosie the Clydesdale horse. Books will be for sale but readers are welcome to bring their own copies.
Terah has already had a busy week as she was one of several sporting cowgirl fashion from local boutiques in ‘The Show’ Tuesday, Sept. 8. The ‘biggest Tuesday night in Texas’ event always acts as a fundraiser with this year’s proceeds going to help the Erath County Humane Society.
Terah has a lot of respect for the the CCPRCA organization which is headed by president James Andrae and vice president Casey Hammons.
Her involvement with the group dates back to 2018 when she was invited to join the flag team by a friend. She went to work at the former Stephenville Bradberry’s Best location in 2019 which led to her getting to know Hammons, who invited her to join the committee.
“We have a great team,” Terah said of the organization. “We all work so well together.”
She is also in awe of the amount of people who volunteer to help every September.
This was the second year of the ranch rodeo held the weekend before the PRCA event. There has also been the Cowpatty Classic Golf Tournament, Western Swing Festival, Miss Cowboy Capital pageant, the Cross Timbers Fine Arts Council “Art of the Cowboy” exhibit featuring the work of Judy Parton and Sara Mize through Saturday, Sept. 26.
“What we used to all call rodeo heritage week we all now call Rodeo Heritage month,” Terah said, adding that she saw the move from the Lone Star Arena to the Cowboy Capital Fairgrounds. “In four years, it is amazing what we have accomplished. So many people have been involved.”
Terah said the production is always top-notch too, drawing a lot of excitement from those who attend. She said a girl from Australia attended last week and told her she was amazed by how ‘grand’ everything was.
Bradberry’s Best is usually a ticket sponsor for the rodeo but accepted the invitation to sponsor the parade so Terah has been working with parade organizer Aurora Borja as well.
“We’re super excited about [the parade] and want everyone to come out and watch it in Stephenville,” said Terah. She said it was a fitting event to sponsor as Harry Bradberry was known to love a good parade.
She also encouraged anyone interested to consider volunteering and businesses to consider sponsoring for next year so they can continue to celebrate our rodeo heritage in grand fashion.
