Corn Turn-Row Meeting This year the local corn crop looks to be one of the best we have had. April and May have given us good moisture and cool nights, ideal for corn growth. Corn silage is a big crop in Comanche and surrounding counties with several thousand acres grown every year. This corn silage is grown to support the strong dairy industry in the area. For the last several years we have worked with local ag businesses, seedsmen, and the Hoekman Dairy to conduct an extensive set of corn silage trials. We have some good multipleyear data on several varieties most often used in the county and we add a few new ones every year.
This year the corn turn-row meeting will be held on Thursday, June 4th starting at 6:00 PM at the field near Hoekman Dairy. We will have a Texas A&M Specialist, seed company representatives, and local seedsman talking about varieties, new seed technologies, management concerns, growing conditions, and crop expectations. It will be an interesting and informative meeting, and we will be providing 2 IPM CEU’s for private applicators that attend. Our good local sponsors will be providing an excellent catfish supper for everyone.
