We will be holding the Peanut Field Day Tour again this year. It has been a sure rough couple of years for crops in the county, but irrigated crops still look fair to good. Peanut acreage in the county is no where near historic levels, but peanuts are still a very viable crop for local producers. Prices for peanuts are as good or better than other crops, but of course the high inputs hurt profits.
To support agriculture producers and agriculture businesses, the Comanche County AgriLife Extension office, Texas A&M Peanut specialists, and our good co-operator Mark Allison have an excellent set of research trials for peanuts. We will be hosting a field day to view these trials and talk with some excellent specialists and producers about varieties, growing conditions, challenges, disease and insect issues, new irrigation monitoring technology, and other topics that will be of interest to all ag producers.
The field day will be held on Thursday, September 26th, beginning at 10:00 AM and running to approximately 2:00 PM. The field day will be held at Mark Allison’s Farm located at 1221 County Road 340, Dublin, TX 76446- just follow the signs when you get there. There will be 2 CEU’s offered at the Field Day- 1 IPM and 1 General. Lunch will be sponsored by our great local sponsors and since this is a field day we ask you to bring a lawn chair if you do not like to stand for very long.
This is always an excellent field day with the opportunity to see up close and first-hand variety and agronomic research that is applicable to our growing conditions.
