Through a partnership with Transformation Pathway (Dublin’s Christian Women’s Job Corps ministry), a new branch of the Woman’s Missionary Union has begun to meet the second Thursday of every month at noon.
WMU, an auxiliary of the Southern Baptist Convention, began 133 years ago in the hearts of visionary leaders to pray and systematically raise money for missions.
One of the organizers of the Dublin group, Cynthia Butler, reported that there had been a push away from WMU in recent years but many have found they missed being connected through the ministry and the fellowship it provides. As such, the group is drawing women from both Dublin and nearby communities like Stephenville, Bluff Dale, DeLeon and Edna Hill.
The group started with 10 at Granny Clark’s but quickly outgrew that space. They met once at the Station by First National Bank before Community Baptist (505 W. Mesquite) offered its fellowship hall for their most recent meeting May 11.
There were 26 in attendance Thursday as Sharonda Fellers spoke about mission work in India as Indian cuisine was served to the guests present.
Oma Lee Brawley, motherin- law to Transformation Pathway Site Director Juanita Brawley. generally arranges the speaker, ensuring interesting testimonials about worthwhile mission work.
Butler assured the group is open to the public.
“We would love for any lady wanting to be a part [of the WMU] to come,” she said.
