Dublin graduate Lindi Anderson Hamm has always enjoyed baking. “I learned how to bake at a young age watching my mom and grandmothers,” she said.
Last year, Hamm started her own bakery business, Lindi Lue’s Fried Pies. “I have entered and won several baking competitions over the years and thought, why not make a profit from doing something I enjoy?” she said.
Hamm graduated from Dublin High School in 2009, and began working in farming and ranching, a field she was familiar with because of her upbringing. “I’ve farmed and ranched most of my life,” she said.
She also worked as a paraprofessional at a school for a few years. During this time she was raising four children as a single mom. “I was trying to work to support my kids,” she said. “Without the support of my family and help from the good Lord above, I would not have made it.”
In 2018, she met her nowhusband, Jessie Joe Hamm. “I was friends with his mom and she set us up on a date,” she said. “We married a month later and have been together ever since.”
After they married, the Hamms spent a year living in west Texas while Jessie worked at a ranch. They now live in Desdemona, where they have a small hobby farm. An average day starts with Hamm and her children feeding the animals.
“Then I check the garden for any vegetables and fruit that needs to be harvested,” she said. “My ingredients that I use are fresh and I try to grow what I use for baking myself. If I’m not able to grow it, I buy it locally at fresh food markets.”
She makes all her pie filling herself and rolls the dough out by hand. “It’s a lot of work and tedious but I enjoy it,” she said.
Hamm runs her business through social media. “I post my baked goods on social media and usually sell out within an hour,” she said.
She’s happy with this model, as it allows her to spend time with her children. “I can work around their schedules and be active in their lives,” she said.
Hamm has four sons, Klayson 15, Hudson 13, Dax 10, and Kyefer 8. Her mother, Donna Peacock, lives in Desdemona, and her father Jeff Anderson lives in DeLeon.
When Hamm has free time, she enjoys gardening. “I really enjoy growing and canning our own food and knowing where it comes from,” she said. “I teach my kids how to forage, hunt and grow their own food as well. My most recent interests are medicinal plants and cheese making.”
Throughout her life, Hamm has drawn inspiration from her mother, Donna Peacock. “She has showed me what a loving and caring mother should be, and I strive to be more like her every day,” Hamm said.
Hamm’s advice to Dublin graduates is to learn as much as they can about anything and everything. “The knowledge is endless,” she said. “Don’t be afraid to try new things.”
