When Jennifer Devora took the dual credit anatomy class at Dublin High School, she was fascinated. “I just really enjoyed learning about the human body,” she said. “I thought it was very interesting.”

When she graduated in 2005, she decided to go to school for nursing. “I didn’t like school much, so four-year college was not for me,” she said. “I thought a one-year program would probably be better.”

She completed a one-year nursing program at Ranger College, and once she finished school she started working at the nursing home in Dublin. “I did meds, wound care if they needed it, and basic care,” she said.

She transferred to a nursing home in Stephenville, where she did the same things. At both facilities, her favorite part of the job was getting to know the residents. “Some of them don’t have family to come visit, so you’re the only ‘family’ they have,” she said. “You get really attached to the people. That’s what kept me working there.”

After a few years of working in local nursing homes, Devora began commuting to Brownwood where she worked in a clinic. She took the job because her thenhusband also worked in Brownwood. The marriage did not work out, and she moved back to Stephenville shortly after and took a job at Excel Healthcare in Stephenville.

In October of 2014, Devora met her current husband, Joey. Joey was born and raised in Abilene, so in 2015 Devora moved there to be closer to him. They were married in 2017, and have lived in Abilene since.

Devora now works for Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene. She started off in the outpatient surgery center, and now works in the cardiology clinic. “I work for one specific doctor, and I triage phone calls, do EKGs, do a lot of the computer work and call patients with test results,” she said.

Devora enjoys the regular schedule — something quite rare in the nursing profession. “I don’t work holidays, I don’t work weekends,” she said. “I’m able to be home with my kids.”

She plans on staying at her current clinic at least until her children finish school. “I’m happy with where I’m at,” she said. “This is where I want to be.”

Her husband works as an insurance adjuster, and Devora has her adjusting license as well. When her kids graduate, she and Joey plan to travel and work as insurance adjusters on the side.

Devora met her husband online, and is grateful for their life together. “He’s amazing,” she said. “He helps take care of my kids just like they’re his own and he treats us well. He’s everything I could have hoped for.”

Devora and her husband each have two children from their previous marriages. Devora’s son Kase is 10, and her daughter Kendall is 14. Her husband’s son Noah is 17 and his daughter Catalina is 21.

Between work and family commitments, Devora doesn’t have much free time. When she has time to herself, she enjoys reading. Most of her time off work is spent supporting her family at various sporting events.

Her parents, Cindy and Danny Eoff, live in San Angelo. Devora’s mother has been one of her greatest sources of inspiration in life. “She has always taught us to never give up,”she said. “She’s a very strong woman and just watching her has been very inspirational to me. “

Devora’s advice to Dublin graduates is to get out and explore the world. “It’s fun growing up in a small town but you don’t get to experience a lot,” she said. “You just get out there and experience different things.”
