Area residents were awoken late Tuesday, Sept. 19 to crashing thunder, turbulent wind and in some cases damage from unexpected severe weather moving through the area.

Many people throughout the county especially near Lingleville dealt with downed and uprooted trees and storage buildings that had collapsed.

According to the National Weather Service who sent a survey crew to check out the damage, there was not a tornado but rather damage was the result of straight line winds.

“Straight line winds will do a lot of damage and these were about 70 mph,” National Weather Service Meteorologist Steve Fano said.

According to State Farm agent Trenton Hunt, he saw many of the same clients from the April storm get hit again and in some cases worse with hail and more severe winds.

“There was quite a bit of damage between Dublin and Stephenville and with no forecast,” he said.

There was no forecast of any severe weather or rain the day the storms struck.
