In the general election held last Tuesday, Nov. 2, the Democratic ticket won by a large majority. President Truman received 3101 votes while the other candidates trafled with Dewey getting 586, Thurmond 202, Watson 15, Wallace 5 and Thomas 1. In the senate race Lydon Johnson led the ticket with 2823 followed by Porter with 890 and Morris 40. Governor Jester received 3,429 against Lane’s 327, Overholt’s 15 and Wright’s 4. All the amendments carried in the county except the last one which had to do with retirement for judges. The vote on this was 903 for and 1318 against.

Texas as a whole voted democratic which she has always done with a few exceptions. This was one of the most upsetting elections in the national races in many years. It was almost generally conceded that the republican ticket would carry by a large vote. Not only the democractic presidential candidate but a majority of seats in both houses were won by the democrats.

The Lions remained undeafeated in the year and registered their fourth shutout as they beat the Valley Mills Eages 21-0 last week.

Mike Jurey opened scoring in the second quarter on a 13 yard scamper around left end with 7:30 left in the half. Randel Joiner kicked the PAT to lift the score 7-0.

The Lions came right back after a short Eagle punt to score a 42 yard pass play from Mike Sharp to David Boucher. Joiner’s kick was blocked and the half ended at 13-0 after Sharp blocked a Valley Mills field goal try with 6 seconds left.

The second half saw Dublin play good defense and move the ball well on passes by Sharp and good running by John Hodges and Jurney. Sharp teamed up with Boucher again in the third quarter on a 24 yard pass and then hit Boucher for the 2 extra points to make the score stand at 21-0.

The Eagles threatened again in the last two minutes but again was repelled by the stiff Lion defense.

The Lions now play the China Springs Cougers to determine a district championship this week. The winner of the 7:30 contest here in Dublin will be the district representatives in the playoff no matter what the outcome of the last week of competition.
