M.D. Barbee announces that they will hold an opening day celebration next Saturday at their new building upon the opening of the new Pontiac agency. This new firm is located between the fire hall and the Barbee Butane Co. Store.

Entertainment for the day will be a radio broadcast from 1:30 to 2:30 in the afternoon, followed by an old fiddlers contest at which prizes will be given. A loud speaker will be provided in order that everyone can hear. There will be a new Pontiac car on display that will interest many.

This building has been completely rebuilt inside and out and a completely new front installed. There is a large new car display room in front with the offices and parts department on the side. A large door has made connecting the automobile building and the butane store. In the back is a garage with the latest automobile tools and testing machines.

Police Chief Paul Johnson announced Tuesday that the City of Dublin has been awarded a COPS grant which will provide three additional police officers for three years.

COPS (Community-Oriented Policing System) is a matching grant funded through the Department of Justice in an amount expected to be in excess of $282,000.

Dublin’s share of the 75/25 percent grant will be about $23,000 a year for three years. The grant will cover salaries and fringe benefits for the three officers, but does not cover the cost of training and equipment.

According to Chief Johnson, the city is expected to “make an effort” to retain the officers at the end of three-year program. “Our hope and aim is to continue the program (past the three year funding),” he said.
