The spirit of happy childhood is always identified with its Christmas season.
Gift time is opportunity time – to bring added happiness and to found lasting memories but old Santa Claus is strictly a midwinter personality and like all old friends who have been away, his acquaintance must be revived.
The time is approaching for good old Kris Kringle’s annual tour and he must know all the wants of his children before he gets out his great coat, puts on his mittens, loads down his sleigh and starts his reindeers over a world in its period of jollity, mirth and unselfishness.

Following the end of World War II, a Dublin tradition began – one that has been longremembered by participants and observers alike. Some of those memories are cleansing; others still too emotional to dwell on.
Tom Rogers (or little Tommy, as he was known at that time) was a part of the American Legion burial team by virtue of his trumpet skills. The group has no one to play Taps, so the young musician was recruited. “The group was formed after World War II to provide military funerals for servicemen who were sent back to Dublin,” recalled Rogers, who was a resident of Jeanette, Pa at the time of the article. “The post didn’t have any members who played trumpet so they asked me to play Taps.”
