The Woman’s Thursday Club of Dublin opened their new year Saturday, Sept. 23 with the annual President’s Luncheon. Twelve members and three guests were present.

Held in the fellowship hall of the Laurel Street Methodist Church, beautiful autumnal decorations graced the tables with orange runners, garlands of fall leaves, pumpkins and gourds greeting members and guests as they arrived.

Members brought paper goods for CWJC and nonperishable food for the Food Basket for our service projects and a nice collection was gathered. A brief time of visiting among members and introductions of guests led the group into lunch.

Following a blessing by Denise Weems a buffet of mini-sandwiches, homemade chips, a variety of fresh fruits and spice cake was enjoyed. President Fran Jurney called the meeting to order and Juanita Brawley, director of CWJC, Transformation Pathway gave some history on the organization.

She also pointed out ways that CWJC served the community. A student from one of the classes, Sara Brinkerhoft, talked about the web-building class she is attending and how it will allow her to find a job and possibly work from home to take care of her family.

Store manager, Carol Bratton then spoke about the thrift store, how items come in, how they are cleaned and priced before being put on the shelves. The store has gone through quite a transformation. Many useful and lovely items from baby clothing and equipment, shoes and clothing for adults, kitchenware, furniture, etc. are all available at very good prices.

President Fran again addressed the ladies by reminding them of all the endeavors that were completed in the last year. Among those was the collection of paper goods for CWJC, hygiene bags for the food bank boxes from the First Methodist Church, contributions to the Goodfellows Christmas fund, purchasing the Bluebonnet Award Winning books for the Dublin Public Library.

Club members played a huge part in the Summer Reading Program and the Back-to-School Fair held at the library. The scholarship fund will be a focus during this year; a scholarship will be awarded to a 2024 Dublin graduate.

The traditional group picture was taken with the reminder that the first meeting will be Thursday, Oct. 12 in the home of Denise Weems; a program about scary stories in Erath County will be presented.

What an amazing kick off to the new year of programs!
