Rodriguez runs for fourth term in office
As a longtime incumbent school board member and immigrant, Bill Rodriguez knows firsthand the importance of education.
“It’s important and I love serving on the school board so much,” he said.
The trustee has served on the board for six years and makes the students in the district his priority.
“I love to follow the honor roll and encourage them to continue throughout the year,” he said. “It’s so important to be educated.”
As an immigrant, Rodriguez came to Los Angeles, California from Mexico when he was in third grade. From an early age, he knew he was going to attend college and made it a goal to become more educated.
“Even with my daughter and my nephews, we tried to enforce the importance of college,” he said.
Becoming an American citizen in 1963, he was drafted into the Army in his junior year of college and then was sent to Vietnam for 13 months.
After returning, he began his only full-time job with State Farm. After finishing college he became a salaried employee and was employed for State Farm for 39 years.
Over his career, he and his family moved five times in a variety of states, coming to Dublin seven years ago.
“I’m thankful God has always given me a life that has been full of blessings,” he said.
As a Dublin ISD school board member and community member, he is exceptionally proud of the music department, especially the recent news from the band getting a superior rating.
He also enjoys sharing time with the other board members and supporting their kids.
“I really love the stadium and the facility that brings people into Dublin,” he said.
If he could change one thing, he would include the Hispanic community and parents more.
“They should be growing just like their children are,” he said.
He praised the work of Superintendent Melissa Summers along with the principals and teachers of the district.
“I recognize how awesome it is for the district to have those who are leading us,” he said. “Their work ethics are unbelievable.”
When not supporting students at a variety of activities, Rodriguez enjoys spending time with his wife of 50 years, Ida. They have one daughter, and they are exceptionally proud of her success.
