“Everything brought us here,” said Dublin City Secretary Melissa Minor, who was approved to the position by the city Council on Nov. 16.

“Dublin has a sense of community that’s really spectacular,” she added. “As soon as we moved here, we could see that people really cared.”

Melissa and her family moved to town four years ago following the retirement of her husband, Gabriel from his military career.

That career meant that the couple had to move several times as he was stationed in Fort Hood, Fort Carson in Colorado and Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri so they were looking for a good place to settle and raise their children.

“What ultimately brought us here was the schools for the kids,” she said.

They have three children enrolled at Dublin ISD (Nathaniel, 15; Samuel, 9; and Sarah, 5) and Melissa said it has been a great fit.

The move also offered the League City, Texas (near Houston) native and graduate a chance to finish her education, attaining an associate’s degree from Ranger College.

Minor started working for the city two months ago in the water department and says that she’s enjoyed getting to know all of her co-workers.

She has also enjoyed getting to help her neighbors when they come in with issues or to pay a bill.

“I’ve always been driven to help people,” Minor said of working to fix problems. “More often than not, customers leave satisfied [with the solution].”

Minor said she is looking forward to finding solutions for the city’s employees and residents as get to know more about her home.

“It’s new to me but I pick things up quickly,” she offered.

Minor is also excited about the revitalization she is seeing in Dublin with building getting restored and filled by businesses downtown and the potential of more sales to boost Dublin’s sales tax thereby allowing more improvements to the city.

She is also happy to see more people including new business owners, moving into Dublin.

“They see the same potential I see in Dublin,” Minor said. “I’m thrilled to be a part of it.”
