Those at the State Capitol may be a little more familiar with Dublin, Stephenville, Erath County and Tarleton State University after a recent trip to Austin from local leaders.
On March 1, they traveled to Austin, advocating as one voice for critical community support, for Cowboy Capital of the World Day.
The executive delegation — Tarleton President James Hurley, Mayor Doug Svien, Judge Brandon Huckabee and Stephenville ISD Superintendent Eric Cederstrom, Dublin City Manager Bobby Mendez — met with state legislators and their staffs to discuss infrastructure, economic development, and healthcare and educational needs.
“It is an honor to share our day in Austin with municipal, county and school district leaders. The voice of ‘we’ brings a powerful message,” Dr. Hurley said. “We are fortunate to have legislators who hear this message, that a transformative education means superior quality of life.”
Tarleton’s five interns serving at the 88th Texas Legislature can testify. In addition to helping organize the visit, they’re learning firsthand how government processes impact a community’s big picture.
As part of Cowboy Capital of the World Day, Sen. Brian Birdwell (Dist. 22) and Rep. Shelby Slawson (Dist. 59) sponsored resolutions honoring Erath County Day. The resolutions were read from the House and Senate floors. After lunch, the group took a tour of the capitol.
“We would like to thank County Judge Brandon Huckabee for the invitation and we look forward to future meetings,” Mendez said.
