The Dublin Public Library is getting a brand new look thanks to an $89,000 Transformation Grant from the Tocker Foundation.
“This grant will allow the library to be transformed to address current community needs,” said head librarian Adina Dunn, who added that the funds are bringing in more durable furniture and allowed for a consultant to help with planning.
“I am very grateful that we are a part of this process and that we have expert help,” she said.
One of the largest changes will be in flipping the children’s room with the teen and adult fiction area in the library.
Dunn reported that more than half of the items checked out last year were from the children’s and teen’s area so the redesign will allow for the expansion of the children’s area with fun and functional displays and a quiet room for teens doing reading or research.
“All of those collections will have more room now,” she said.
The funds will allow for the purchase of a lot of new furniture for the entirety of the library including seating for all areas and shelving to create a more open layout when the library is hosting community events.
Dunn reported that the library has received several smaller grants and donations throughout the years but the last time it received such a sizable grant and redesign was 2011.
Dunn reported that renovations are expected to start in August after the end of this year’s summer reading program. The library is expected to be closed for two weeks while this work is being performed and volunteers would be appreciated to help as furniture is constructed and moved.
Dunn also said the library is looking at repainting and installing new carpets to match the updated look. Anyone who would like to donate time or money into the brand new library can call (254) 445-4141 or visit the library at 206 W. Blackjack.
