Hamilton to offer native, perennial plant fair

Hosted by the Agrilife Hamilton Master Gardeners, the sale will be at the County Annex at the corner of West Henry and North Rice Street (104 N. Rice Street) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. or earlier if sold out March 24-25.

Plant focus for this sale is on native and adapted landscape plants including vegetable/cool season culinary herbs.

We will also offer plant materials that meet the requirements for the Grow Green Program through Agrilife Extension.

This isn’t a sale you will want to miss. You may remember the new tomato the “Downtowner” made it’s debut last year.

A Porter F1 cross is a fruit that weighs approximately 8 oz and is 4 inches across with an easily sliceable skin. Will often have 20 tomatoes on the vine at a time, taking 70-75 days for maturity.

Known to be resistant to most tomato diseases and is resistant to cracking/ splitting. Hardy surviving in periods of hard or uneven rainfall and the fruit is sweet and flavorful making your salsas, salads, juices and canned foods one of a kind.

Pre-orders can be placed by calling (254) 386 3919 and are to be picked up at the Annex Thursday, March 23 or Friday, March 24. Availability is limited and orders are on a first order, first served basis. Majority will be in 4 inch containers and prepared for spring garden/landscape planting.

Locally grown (acorns from this area) 5 gallon Texas Red Oak Trees will be available this year. Limit of 10 per purchase on the trees. Don’t let the drought stop you from adding the favorite Texas Bluebonnet to your landscaping, we will have plenty available. Plant varieties will be finalized the week before the plant sale, varieties likely will be:6” Geraniums,4”SunBegonias, 4” Bluebonnet, 4” Dew Plant, 4” Sweet Potato Vine, Margariet, 4” Marigold, Durango series, 4” Petunias, mixed colors, Grazania’s, Ice Plant, Rosemary, upright, Verbena, Mixed colors, Tomatoes, Peppers and Jalapeno (TAMU).
